Five Best Red-Orange Lipsticks By Category

red orange lipsticks best favorites

My favorite lip color is undeniably red-orange. It’s good for all year round and adds a feminine edgy pop! Trying a new color is a little intimidating with so many brands and types to choose from. So I’ve consolidated my favorites by category so that you can make an educated decision on your red-orange lipstick purchase!

1. The best matte red-orange lipstick: NYX ‘Indie Flick’

This bad boy has a lotta pop! Only one coat gets the job done, and will have a nice matte finish for hours and hours. It took me forever to find my own tube because it’s all sold out everywhere and it’s only $6! It’s very very matte, so make sure to add a thin layer of lip balm first so your lips don’t look dry. This one I’ve featured in a few blog posts including “Pop of Orange” and “Kimono”.

2. The best satin red-orange lipstick: YSL ‘Le Orange’

This satin finish is romantic and feminine…not for the edgy look that the matte finish gives you. The YSL pigment is great, plus the creamy texture gets in all the creases and is super moisturizing. No lip balm needed!

3. The best creamy red-orange lipstick: Motives ‘Citrus’

This one is mineral based, so it is more sheer in order to be buildable. What I like about this brand is that when I’m only in the mood for a subtle color I apply just one coat. When I want a full, dramatic look I will apply 2-3 coats and it doesn’t get gloopy or thick. The creamy base is also very moisturizing and nourishing. This one I’ve featured in multiple blog posts including “Mix & Match”“Pops of Color”, “Pink Chic”, and “Pastels for Easter Sunday”.

4. The best semi-matte red-orange lipstick: NARS ‘Heat Wave’

This one is full coverage and long wearing! The pigment is great and you only need one coat…two for a super dramatic look. The color is very vivid and matte, but has a little sheen to it. Wear a layer of lip balm underneath if you’re going to be wearing it all day long.

5. The best long-wearing red-orange lipstick: MAC ‘Lady Danger’

This one is the best combination of the attributes with a price that is middle-of-the-road. The pigment is great. One layer is good enough, but two gets the true pigment on there. It’s a creamy base, so it will have a little sheen to it but I would definitely wear a lip balm underneath to get the best use out of it. I used to wear this one to work all the time when I worked at Nordstrom, and would only have to re-apply it after I ate lunch!
